Wednesday interval training – Summer BU

On Wednesdays we run an interval training session between 6.30pm and 8pm. It’s designed for anyone who would like to improve – get faster & fitter

During the winter we run on Woodbourn Road Athletic Stadium (Stadium Way, Sheffield S9 3HL) and during the summer we run on Whirlow Playing Fields (Coit Lane, S17 – next to Birkdale Playing Fields)

The sessions are led by two very experienced runners – Colin Osborne (Totley AC Training Coordinator) and Neil Stabbs (Totley AC Men’s Captain)

The sessions are open to all abilities, and within the sessions, individuals are grouped according to similar abilities. They’re called ‘training sessions’, but don’t let that put you off – attendees can exercise at their own speed and level and there’s no pressure to run ‘fast’ and no one get’s left behind. There is also a big social element to them.

All Totley weekly runs and training sessions are always free. The only exception is when we train on the athletics track where a small track fee needs to be paid directly by the individual upon arrival.

Where are the training sessions based?

Session are always 6.30pm to 8pm and locations vary according to the time of year and include Woodbourn Road Stadium (normally in the winter) and Castle Dyke / Coit Lane (the field behind the Birkdale pitch off Ringinglow Rd) (normally in the summer). Occasionally the sessions clash with a club race though – please check the calendar before coming along

Am I suitable to come along?

This session is for all abilities. Runners will be grouped according to ability

Do I have to pay?

Totley AC don’t ever charge any attendees for any of our group runs or training sessions. However, when the sessions are based at Woodbourn Road there is a track fee to pay directly when you arrive

What are the sessions like?

The sessions are designed to increase speed & strength. They’re normally running track based (during the winter) or within an area of similar size on grass (during the summer). You’ll be doing running exercises like fartlek, or intervals. Feel free to come along and watch a session before you try it out.

Weekly Sessions to Percy Pud:

Week 1 (21/09) – Track Intro, 12 x 400m (1 lap) with 1 min rest
Week 2 (28/09) – 3k Time Trial (7.5 laps)
Week 3 (05/10) – 4 x 1 mile (4 laps) with 90 secs – 2 mins rest
Week 4 (12/10) – 6 x 1k (2.5 laps) with 90 secs rest
Week 5 (19/10) – 8 x 600m (1.5 laps) with 90 secs rest
Week 6 (26/10) – 12 x 400m (1 lap) with 1 min rest
Week 7 (02/11) – 6 x 1k (2.5 laps) with 90 secs rest
Week 8 (09/11) – 5 x 800m (2 laps) with 90 secs rest
Week 9 (16/11) – 8 x 600m (1.5 laps) with 90 secs rest
Week 10 (23/11) – 12 x 400m (1 lap) with 1 min rest
Week 11 (30/11) – Percy Pud Tune-Up Session (300m reps)

Do I need to be a member of Totley AC first?

There is no requirement to join Totley AC before coming along to any of our sessions. Come along. try them out a few times, and if you want carry on coming along you can join then
