The Course

A swift lap of the cricket pitch and then off out along Strawberry Lee Lane, the first climb is short and sharp up the sharp turn and steep descent back down to the stepping stones/river crossing. From here a longer but steadier climb takes you up to the Devil’s Elbow and on to less steep but still uphill drag to the top tip of Blacka Moor Woods. Out the woodland and onto the rough bridleway dropping down into the sheep field. A gentle descent on lush green pasture brings you to the final climb, it’s not big but there’s a good chance it’ll be muddy! From here is a long flat over Totley Moor for a kilometre or so and then it’s the final descent back down to the cricket pitch and a final customary loop.

Mandatory kit

Due to the time of year you will be asked to carry full FRA Best Practice kit (Waterproof whole body cover (taped seams and attached hood) + hat + gloves + map + compass + whistle + emergency food). Should the weather be very kind the RO reserves the right to reduce the minimum kit required. Ensure you bring EVERYTHING just in case.

The route

TTD is 7.8km with 270 metres of ascent making it a BS category race. Due to access on Blacka Moor and Totley Moor the route is entirely on PRoW is partially marked. Flags must be followed at all times.

How to enter

There is 1 option:

  1. You can pre-enter online here: https://www.avtiming.com/twoturtledoves

TTD is open to 16+ year olds (age as on day of 26/12/22) a parent or guardian must complete the “Parental Consent Form for Junior Fell Runners”, this can be found on the FRA website and will also be available at the pavilion. You must neither start the race using a number obtained in someone else’s name nor give your number to someone else to use in the race.

Race Day

If you require assistance at any time, please contact Race Control on one of the following numbers:
Steve Franklin 07749 646272

This race is held under FRA Rules and runners must familiarize themselves with and comply with the FRA Requirements for Runners 2018 (the “Runners’ Rules”).
All runners must carry the kit required by the Race Organiser. Mandatory kit inspections may be performed on race day.  You will not be admitted to start the race unless you have passed this inspection. A further check may be undertaken on completion of the race – anyone completing the race without the required kit will be disqualified and reported to the FRA.
Your race number must not be folded or cut down and, at the start, all checkpoints and the finish must be clearly visible on your chest.
Numbers may be recorded at some checkpoints as well as at the finish; failure to show your number at checkpoints will lead to disqualification.
Entrants may not take dogs on the course Competitors are responsible for their own safety when running on the roads at the start and finish of the race.
Runners are not required to record their arrival at checkpoints in any way. The only requirement is that competitors must run past the marshals (without taking short cuts) with their race numbers clearly visible.

Retirement procedure
Runners wishing to retire from the race MUST inform Race Control and not just a marshal. They should either:

  • Report to a checkpoint and then return directly to the finish to report to race control
  • Report directly to race control at Tigers RUFC when retiring between checkpoints or
  • Telephone Race Control (see numbers listed above)

Thank you to MyRaceKit for printing and supplying our race numbers
