Race Organiser: Ruth Canton

There will be kit checks, on the day. At the end of the race, we will collect your number, which should clearly display two distinct punch marks from the last two check points. You will need these punch marks to register a time.

Directions

From North
Leave M1 at Junction 33. Head towards Sheffield City Centre on A57, after Dual Carriageway becomes a 50 mph zone follow signs for Ring Road and Services. Turn left onto the Ring Road (A6102) . Follow the Ring Road for 4-5 miles until you come to the Meadowhead roundabout (clearly signed). Check points

While every effort has been made to ensure that these grid references are correct it should be remembered that they only refer to a 100m by 100m square on the ground. They may also be subject to slight variation or change. If this occurs we will let you know on our Totley AC Home Page and will direct you to this table from there. If you have any feedback then please do not hesitate to contact the Race Director.

Equipment

This is a category "A" Long Fell Race. As such, it is mandatory (as specified by the FRA Handbook Safety Requirements paragraph 9) for you to carry the following equipment or you will be disqualified from the race and if in the series you will therefore forfeit the right of gaining a T-Shirt.

  1. Windproof whole body cover
  2. Other body cover appropriate for the weather conditions
  3. Map and compass suitable for navigating the course
  4. Whistle
  5. Emergency Food

Depending on the weather conditions, the Race Director may decide that hat and gloves are also required, but this is a decision that will be made on the day. Random kit checks will be carried out.

General Race Instructions

This is a category "A" Long Fell race. In addition to having the mandatory equipment as stated above it essential that all competitors realise the seriousness of the undertaking. We have been very fortunate in recent years with the weather but do not take this for granted. You must visit all the checkpoints in the prescribed order, punching your card when necessary. The route you choose for the entire course is up to you. At the beginning of the race, you may choose to take the fields up to Totley Moor instead of the road. Keep in mind, too many runners taking this option will cause a 'fell race traffic jam'. There is over 4000' of climb throughout the length of the race. The route is not marked but is partially marshalled. There are three water stations but you should not be relying on them as you should be aiming to get round the course carying your own provisions. Navigational skills are therefore essential and experience of fell running or similar is also desired. Do not expect to be given a map at the start. You are responsible for providing your own map. There are 6 road crossings on the route. Only 2 of these are by marshalled checkpoints. Please take care when crossing roads. Traffic will not be stopped for you.

Events

The sponsor of our race series "Accelerate" have a stall on the ground throughout the day for you to purchase any essential equipment, either for the race or another event. There will also be a post race massage tent.

Please note that the change made to Check point 6 will remain:
CP 6 was moved to 251 817 where the path across Mitchell’s Field exits on to the road. There will be a marshal at this checkpoint. This is to ensure that runners do not cross the Private Land that is out of bounds. We don’t want to upset any more landowners than is necessary. Please also note that maps will not be provided on the day. You are expected to carry your own maps suitable for navigation of the course. The route straddles both the OS maps of the Peak District!
