About the Totley Ultra 2022
The Totley Ultra is a challenging new trail race for 2022 brought to you by Totley AC. Designed for experienced long-distance trail runners, it takes you through some of the most beautiful parts of the Eastern Peak District Moors.
Starting and finishing from the Totley AC club hut on the border of the Peak District, the 31-mile route includes 1 vertical kilometre of ascent as you make your way over the moors to Baslow, then along the Derwent River to Ladybower Reservoir, along the edge of Derwent Moor, and back via Hallam & Houdkirk Moors.
The race starts at 8am sharp and all runners are expected to finish by 5pm
Water and biscuits are provided at check points on the route, however, runners are expected to be self-sufficient on the route. The FRA minimum kit is required to be carried at all times by runners and prior experience in a similar race is an entry requirement
Start and finish location is: Totley AC Pavilion, Lane Head Road, Sheffield, S17 3BA
Facilities include toilets, changing rooms and hot showers
After operating costs, a proportion of the profits from the Totley Ultra will be donated to Edale Mountain Rescue and 267th Dore Scouts
All entrants:
- must accept primary responsibility for their own safety
- should familiarise themselves with the FRA ‘Hypothermia’ leaflet
- agree to abide by the FRA rules at all times
- carry the FRA minimum kit throughout the race along with any other items appropriate to the potential conditions
This race is held under FRA Rules. It has a distance of approximately 30.5 miles with total climb of around 3,800 feet. It is therefore a category B Long race (average not less than 25 metres climb per km, not more than 30% on road).
Entries & transfers
This race is online pre-entry only via AV Timing – there will be NO entry on the day.
If you would like to transfer your entry, please use the link in the confirmation email you received when you bought your ticket.
Race Day
If you require assistance at any time then please contact Race Control on one of the following number:
07930 944 001 – Race organiser Chris Day
This race is held under FRA Rules and runners must familiarise themselves with and comply with the FRA Requirements for Runners 2018 (the “Runners’ Rules”).
Additionally, entrants should note the following:
- Kit inspections may be performed on race day adjacent to the number collection desks. You will not be admitted to the start pen unless you have passed this inspection. A further check may be undertaken on completion of the race – anyone completing the race without the required kit will be disqualified and reported to the FRA.
- ‘FRA Mandatory Minimum Kit’ (waterproof whole body cover (with taped seams and integrated attached hood) + hat + gloves + printed map of the route + compass + whistle and emergency food) will be mandatory and any runner presenting non-compliant kit will not admitted to the start pen and no refund of race fee will be provided. Note that kit inspections will include checking that whole body cover is waterproof (windproof/showerproof kit e.g. Montane Featherlite will not be accepted).
- Please bring a reusable plastic cup if you would like a drink of water at the finish. Single use cups are not provided.
- Your race card must not be folded or cut down and, at the start, all checkpoints and the finish, must be clearly visible on your chest. Failure to show your number at checkpoints will lead to disqualification.
- Entrants may not take dogs on the course
- Road crossings are not marshalled. Competitors must take great care when crossing roads and are responsible for their own safety at all times.
- Runners are required to clip their race card upon arrival at each checkpoint. Race numbers must be clearly visible to marshals.
- GPS devices are permitted for navigational purposes. You will need to visit the checkpoints in numerical order as outlined above
Retirement from race
Retirement procedure Runners wishing to retire from the race MUST inform Race Control and not just a marshal; they should either:
- Report to a checkpoint and then return directly to the finish to report to race controller
- Report directly to race control at the Totley Pavilion when retiring between checkpoints or
- Telephone Race Control (07930944001)
Mandatory FRA minimum kit
All runners will be required to pass a kit check during registration and there will be kit spot checks at the finish. Any entrant attempting to run at any point without the full required kit will be disqualified immediately.
- Hat
- Gloves
- Printed map of the course (this could be a physical OS map or a print-out of the course map)
- A whistle
- Emergency food
- Waterproof trousers (taped seems) and waterproof jacket (with taped seams and integrated, attached hood)
- A navigation compass
Please note that although digital versions of the course are allowed (for example on smart watches or mobile phones), they cannot be accepted as part of the FRA Min Kit (as physical map if required).
